Be Well Aware Checklist

  • new wells are properly constructed by a licensed contractor and located a safe distance from contaminants
  • existing wells are properly inspected, maintained, and upgraded as necessary by a licensed contractor
  • potential contaminants are kept a safe distance from your well
  • well water is regularly tested for bacteria, and is screened initially and periodically for other contaminants
  • unused wells are properly plugged and sealed by a licensed contractor

As a private water well owner, it is your job to be well aware — to understand the basics of well maintenance and operation, and to take the necessary actions to keep your water wells in safe running order. Well Aware is a guide to caring for your wells.

Bulk Orders of Well Aware Booklets Available

The Well Aware booklet is a valuable tool to inform well owners about well stewardship and groundwater protection.

Please note that you can order bulk shipments of Well Aware booklets from Green Communities Canada. Each box contains 150 booklets. There is no charge for the booklets but there is a shipping cost which is usually between $20-30 for deliveries in Ontario. Please email your orders to: info(at)wellaware.ca or call (705) 745-7479.
